Austext - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Austext is a teletext service used in Australia, carried by the Seven Network nationwide.
It carries content such as news, finance, weather, lottery results and a TV guide.
The austext service has recently been upgraded, with Seven Network using newer technology to try to improve the service.

Austext has recently changed significantly to drop to minimal coverage of Tab Limited and Unitab information but this change does not affect Bettordata in the slightest as the data is sourced and licensed separately and is simply telecast using the same part of Seven's signal along with many other commercial and proprietory feeds.
Austext is a commercial system offered to TABs to distribute their information on at a fee for this publication payable to Seven.
Bettordata on the other hand is a system where Seven contracts and licenses the data from the TABs on a commercial basis to onsell through its licensee network to end users, this is the same model that the ASX uses to distribute its data about the Australian stock market.

I mainly notice it on menus, but around faces, there is also a slight pinkish edge on one side and a greenish edge on the other.
A good example is Seven's Austext where there is red text on a white background.
It is not visible (at least with Austext) on an analog source, either with the TV's internal tuner or that of a VCR connected via S-video.

Now Austext is available almost Australia wide, and by tuning into pages 560 and up you can now get a rating for just about every runner in Australian galops meetings.
There are exceptions, of course, and these include races where there is little revealed form, hurdle and steeple races and ratings are not available generally for horses with overseas form, although I note that the Melbourne Cup was an exception.
Remember, our survey was for only one month and by careful screening of the selections for value you may find Techform Ratings profitable, which isn't bad for a free service.

Anyone who has Austext and uses it for the TAB Ltd or Unitab prices should turn to Page 540 on their Austext today.
I would have thought that in this day and age of more and better information for punters this is the last thing that TABs would want to be doing, considering their need for more turnover.
I think a much fuller explanation should be given for this change and Austext users should tell both TAB Ltd and Unitab that this is not good enough.

A TAB spokesman said the additional information can be found on pages 506 to 509 and cover the four major meetings in each racing session during the day and night.
Once an event is finished, it leaves the results up for that event as it scrolls through the remaining race approximate dividends,” he said.
The Victorian TAB selects the four main races to be covered during the day and this will be changed to cover the four main meetings at night.

Bettordata is separately licensed to Seven by the TABs independently of the Austext arrangements.
Tab Limited and Unitab decided not to continue with Austext contracts at last renewal (and note Bettordata still has NSW and QLD data) and it has been reported that Tabcorp will not be renewing their contract for Austext later this year (probably as they own Sky which already broadcasts to all of their outlets).
Bettordata is licensed separately and all TABs agreed to renew the Bettordata contract late last year and also extend it for internet distribution as well as via the traditional data broadcast decoders.
