  F88 AuSteyr - Ghost Recon.net Forums
* F88C: The Austeyr F88c is a Carbine version of the regular F88 which has a 407mm barrel (10cm shorter than the standard issue F88).
* F88S: The Austeyr F88s have a picatinny rail in place of the standard optic sight to allow the attachment of various other sights (such as night vision or high-quality long range sights such as the Elcan C79 Wildcat, ACOG or Aimpoint).
This version of the Steyr is notorious amongst Australian infantry soldiers because the rail is uncomfortably close to the cocking handle; this feature frequently results in knuckle injuries after prolonged use.

This is an excellent custom cum kitbash figure from Austeyr aka Sean (GPHQ Owner) that was also submitted as an entry to AFM 2001 organised by Force 126.
So since it was loaned to me by my pal and "business" partner Austeyr, I decided to dedicate a page in my workshop to this wonderful work of his.
Austeyr had the entire figure weathered and "washed" to simulate dirt from Iraqi soil.

You'll find that military Steyrs actually have iron sights built into the top of the optics/carrying handle, for just such a situation.
I've never handled a civilian Steyr so I cannot attest to whether or not all models feature backup irons, but the F88 Austeyr certainly does.
Australian soldiers are trained in the use of both the optical sight and emergency iron sights.
