Roy Leslie Austin was nominated August 27, 2001, by President George Walker Bush as Ambassador to Trinidad and Togabo and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate September 26, 2001.
Ambassador Austin was "sworn in on October 19, 2001, as United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary." He arrived at the Port of Spain and assumed his duties on November 27, 2001.

The Ambassador was cancelled once the Austin Rover–Honda alliance gained momentum, and its market niche and pricing were filled by the Austin Montego, and in the case of the higher-end models (such as the Vanden Plas) by the lower-end models of the hatchback Rover SD1.

The Austin Rover Group (ARG) was formed in 1981 as the mass-market car manufacturing subsidiary of British Leyland (BL).

Some music fans coming to the Austin City Limits festival next week are losing their room reservations to Hurricane Katrina evacuees temporarily holed up in hotels and motels.
Two of 10 Austin hotels surveyed reported that a total of 72 rooms originally booked for festival attendees will be occupied by people displaced by the hurricane.
The Red Cross estimates that 4,200 evacuees are being served at the Austin Convention Center and another 4,200 are staying with friends or family or in hotels.

Lucky that I walked away from a car that rolled then flipped, landed on its roof upside down in a drain (dyke).The car was bent like a banana the rear wheels were hanging off the screen was shattered and various other bits had departed company from it.
I didn't feel that lucky, but the car I had before the ambassador was an allegro, I don't think that the aggro would have let me off without a scratch.
I bought a 1.7HL Ambassador, Dark Red, in 1985 for £1800 and ran it as Taxi for a couple of years with many surprised comments about how comfortable and striking it was.

The fact that Austin as a brand died, only fuels the perception that they were archaic cars, when the truth is that in the late 80's that wasnt particularly true.
