Austin, Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Austin is administered by a city council of seven members, each of them elected by the entire city, and by an elected mayor under the weak mayor-council government system of municipal governance.
Austin is well known as a center for liberal politics in a generally conservative state, leading some Texas conservatives to deride the city as "The People's Republic of Austin." Austin's suburbs, especially to the west and north, and several satellite municipalities, however, tend toward political conservatism.
Austin is home to The University of Texas at Austin, one of the largest universities in the country and is the flagship institution of The University of Texas System—the largest state system of higher education in Texas.

Austin American-Statesman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Austin American-Statesman is the major daily newspaper for Austin, the capital city of Texas.
The Statesman has at various times been accused of being "liberal" (existing as it does in the liberal city of Austin), but its editorials actually show it to be an amalgam of liberal philosophy combined with strong pro-business sentiment.
In this, it reflects the Texas heritage of focusing on business, a history of being Democratic (despite the state's current Republican control and growing Austin suburban conservatism) and the local strong high technology presence.

KOOP, a major pillar in the weirdo structure of Austin, is back on the air because the local classical station KMFA has temporarily housed them, but they need to rebuild.
