In other Cardinals news… well, the indefatigable Ken Rosenthal notes that, with the new Reds ownership, Austin Kearns is back on the block.
The Reds can have Wainwright, Chris Lambert, Mark Worrell, Todd Worrell, and their choice from the Minor League Vet Funbag if they want, because Kearns is an outstanding fielder and a hitter who’s shown a lot of potential.
I know it wouldn’t make a lot of sense after acquiring Bigbie and Encarnacion, but… well, Bigbie is what we in the business of making up terminology call Bumpable.

The Reds were 9th in the NL in scoring last year and could potentially lead the league this season.
They've got two of the best young power-hitters in baseball in Austin Kearns and Adam Dunn and still have that Griffey guy in CF that used to be really good.
Plus, they moved Aaron Boone (who hit.241/.313/.439 with 26 HRs in 2002) to second base in order to get Brandon Larson into the lineup.

With Austin Kearns and Ken Griffey both out indefinitely, Casey will need to continue his strong season for the Reds to have any hope of stickingwith the Cubs, Giants, Padres, and Brewers (!) in the wildcard chase.
By the way, with Casey’s election to the All-Star team this year, he’s one more good half-season away from having his $8.5M option for 2006 picked up — it automatically vests if he’s elected to the all-star team twice during the life of his current contract.
