The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) was formed from New South Wales in 1911 to provide a location for the proposed new federal capital of Canberra (Melbourne was the capital from 1901 to 1927).
The two mainland territories are the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT); the federal government administers a separate area within New South Wales, the Jervis Bay Territory, as a naval base and sea port for the national capital.
Australian English is a major variety of the language; its grammar and spelling are largely based on those of British English, overlaid with a rich vernacular of unique lexical items and phrases, some of which have found their way into standard English.

West To the west, Queensland is bordered by the Northern Territory, at the 138° E. longitude, and to the south-west by the north-eastern corner of South Australia.
State capital Brisbane, is located on the coast 100 km by road north of the New South Wales border.
At 30 June 2004 the capital city represented 45.7% of the population; for the whole country, capital cities represented 63.8% of the total population.

The capital city of Australia is Canberra, though most of the current population of around 20.5 million is concentrated mainly in the large coastal cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

Australian rules football is the most popular national sport for spectators; players gain some international prominence through International Rules which is an annual meeting between the Australian code and Irish Gaelic Football.

The Encyclopedia is more for the professional recovery diver (police search and rescue, military, navy) whilst The Underwater Investigator should be compulsive reading for all dive masters and instructors.
Neville Coleman's AUSTRALIAN SEA FISHES NORTH OF 30o SOUTH was a popular book for northern Australian species but has been surpassed by the other two books mentioned, and is now out of print anyway.
