ACF recognises that the Government's recent decision to abolish its powers to control the exports of all raw materials except uranium, is a commitment made in the 1996 IAP.
The ACF believes this is an example where trade policy has impacted on the national environment, where there are no sufficient safeguards to ensure that the removal of a 'trade barrier' with environmental benefits is replaced by specific measures to protect the environment.
ACF is opposed to action taken by our national government which aims to undermine the progressive environment laws of another nation, rather than upgrading our environmental standards to an equivalent level.

Canberra, 27 September, OGT—The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) says a recent report released by the Australia Institute, an independent public policy research centre, exposes the dangers of geosequestration.
The ACF says the report, co-authored by Dr Hugh Saddler, finds that geosequestration will not be effective in reducing greenhouse pollution from the energy sector, which has increased 34% over the last decade, before 2030.
The ACF says extensive energy efficiency improvements, combined with the use of gas and renewable energy, could reduce greenhouse pollution to 2030 by more than ten times as much as geosequestration alone.

Unfortunately they have chosen a very similar name to the long established Australian Conservation Foundation, so similar that the ACF has sued for trademark infringement.
Probably the best way to keep them apart is to remember that the Australian Conservation Foundation is a grass roots organization with a goal of preserving forests, while the Australian Environmental Foundation is an astroturf organization with a goal of preserving logging companies.
I don’t think ACF will succeed in its legal action, but this clearly misleading choice of name gives an insight into the awareness the right have of their own moral low ground, and how unappealing it sounds if it isn’t dressed up in more civilised language.
