Australian Education Union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The AEU is affiliated with the Federation of Education Unions which unites the AEU with the IEU and the NTEU to provide a combined lobby organisation to advocate education funding and standards.
The AEU's current campaigns are: indigenous studies for teachers; a refugees campaign; a National Coalition against Poverty; Say No to Racism; a teacher supply campaign; a national TAFE funding campaign; a schools funding campaign; and, the World March for Women.
These schools were both demanded by the Australian trade union and labour movement, for the free education of the working class, and also used as a way to control the education and free time of the children of the Australian working class.

Australian Council of Trade Unions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was one of the earliest attempts by trade unions to apply the principles of One Big Union earlier explored by more radical syndicalist unions like the CNT or revolutionary industrial unions like the IWW.
In the Australian case, agitation for One Big Union occurred from 1911 from the revolutionary Australian section of the IWW and from the pro-arbitration Australian Workers Union (AWU).
The ACTU's Australian trade union "peak body" precursors include state labour councils like the Victorian Trades Hall Council (originating in 1856 as the 'Melbourne Trades Hall Committee'), the Labor Council of New South Wales (originally formed in 1870 as the 'Sydney Trades and Labor Council') and the Inter-Colonial Trade Union Congress (formed in 1879).

Branch Secretary Rob Glare argued that since Rawson—a union member for 30 years—was not a union member at the time the allegations were made against her, it was unnecessary to discuss the case any further.
A union report, handed out to conference delegates, revealed that as a result of “new procedures for the management of legal cases” the union had “reduced spending on legal fees” by $292,486.

 Education Forum
Jenny Macklin, Shadow Education Minister: There's no doubt it's a very big issue because, of course, parents know that a great education is what gives their children a terrific start in life.
Add to that that the majority of students with disabilities are also educated in government schools and we would say that the primary need is in the government sector.
I think it's a classic diversionary strategy to direct attention away from the fundamental issue, which is the values that are being expressed by this government to support elite and wealthy institutions rather than the parents and students in public schools.
