A hobby is a fairly small, very swift (Diurnal birds of prey having long pointed powerful wings adapted for swift flight) falcon with long, narrow wings.
There are four birds called hobby, and three others which, although termed falcon, are very similar.
The Australian Hobby or Little Falcon (Falco longipennis) is uncommon but widespread in (A nation occupying the whole of the Australian continent; aboriginal tribes are thought to have migrated from southeastern Asia 20,000 years ago; first Europeans were British convicts sent there as a penal colony) Australia.

A light tan raptor was perched on the wires of the rail cars running parallel to the road, but I was not able to identify it.
I saw two LAUGHING KOOKABURRAS, an AUSTRALIAN RAVEN, lots of NOISY MINERS, a white cockatoo, and a raptor that barely resembled an Australian Hobby perched on a wire.
