The elections to the Austrian National Council taking place in fall of 1995 were the first to follow Austria's accession to the EU and followed only a year after the 1994 elections.
It was also the first election where the ÖVP was headed by Wolfgang Schüssel.
The outcome yielded a two-thirds majority for the coalition, which it had lost in 1994, again allowing it to pass amendments to the constitution.
