Free and peaceful elections in 1999 resulted in a government led by an Indo-Fijian, but a coup in May 2000 ushered in a prolonged period of political turmoil.

 Revivalism
Christian conservatives in the United States won many unexpected election victories between 1970 and 1990 but experienced substantial frustration when they failed to win legislative majorities in state and national politics.
For example, Christian conservatives won control of state Republican Party machinery in Minnesota in the 1980s and 1990s but lost crucial elections when voters perceived them as intolerant extremists.
In Austria, Catholic authorities persecuted Protestant revivalists, both for their revivalism and their Protestantism.

 PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY
Austria's constitution is guided by the rule of law and based on the republican, democratic and federal principles as well as on the strict division of legislative and executive powers and of the judiciary and administration.
In the immediately following parliamentary election in the same year the FP?won 18 seats, which increased to 33 in the 1990 election.
The first parliamentary goal of the Greens is to do away with the nebulous, authoritarian structures of decision-making by informal quasi-governmental and oligarchical groups and to restore the appropriate transparency to government.
