Double-resonance ionization spectra via selected rotational levels of the C'(0100) state of ammonia show direct evidence for rotational-electronic perturbations between Rydberg series converging to different rotational states of NH_3^+ X(0100), and for rotational autoionization when it is energetically allowed.
The simplicity of the double resonance spectra is quite striking, and allows the characterization of the rotational autoionization process as a function of \Delta N^+, and \Delta K^+.
Rotational autoionization by \Delta N^+ = -1, \Delta K^+ = 0 is found to be the dominant decay mechanism, and competes effectively with vibrational autoionization into the NH_3^+ X(0000) continuum.
