Under title II, transit systems of these types which are owned or operated by public entities, and persons under contract with such entities, must be made readily accessible to and useable by individuals with disabilities, including individuals who use wheelchairs.
Automated guideway transit (AGT) system means a fixed-guideway transportation system which operates with automated (driverless) individual vehicles or multi-car trains.
For example, one transit system has a policy of flashing interior train lights to indicate to passengers who are deaf that the train is malfunctioning and that all passengers must exit the train at the next station.

Automated guideway transit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Automated guideway transit (AGT) is a fully automated, grade-separated transit system in which rubber-tired vehicles are guided, usually by horizontally running guide wheels, on a guideway.
AGT is normally used to implement either limited people mover systems, or more complex mass transit systems.
The VAL (Véhicule Automatique Léger) system in Lille, France, opened in 1983, is often cited as the world's first mass transit AGT, but the title is disputed by Kobe's Port Liner, which opened two years earlier in 1981.

Automated People Movers (APMs) - passenger transportation without the need for attendants
An Automated People Mover is a passenger transport system with high levels of electronic intelligence so that vehicles are operated by computers over exclusive guideways without need for attendants.
Other APMs are on the scale of mass transit, often referred to as AGT (automated guideway transit) or driverless metros.
Guideway and station dimensions are significantly smaller in APMs than what is common with rail transit, even light rail.

The most successful Transit Guideway in Los Angeles County is the El Monte Busway/HOV, consisting of a dedicated lane in each direction on or near the I-10 Freeway from slightly East of El Monte to near Union Station in the Northeastern corner of the Los Angeles Central Business District.
As is typical of such transit tax issues, the original plan presented to the voters included many rail lines from the CBD to various suburban centers and residential areas, and included rapid construction of busways that would later be converted to rail.
Guideway costs are generally higher closer to CBDs because of higher costs for land acquisition, and the greater difficulties associated with design and construction.

Additionally, those AGT vehicles that operate as rapid or light rail vehicles would, under paragraph (d), be subject to the greater tolerances specified for rapid rail (subpart C) and light rail (subpart D) systems.

Personal Rapid Transit - Cyberspace Dream Keeps Colliding With Reality
A transit concept from the 1960s, envisioning tiny automated electric automobile-like vehicles speeding throughout urban neighborhoods on elevated guideways, Personal Rapid Transit has fallen on its face and seemingly died several times, only to be repeatedly resuscitated by its adherents.
Because, according to PRT designers, the guideways themselves serve as storage areas for PRT cars that are either waiting for their turn to access on-demand calls in stations, or are simply "on call", waiting to be deployed.
But the vision of a vast network of guideways penetrating the nooks and crannies of even a portion of an urban area seems to have simply been abandoned when project designers and decisionmakers have confronted the real-world challenges and costs of trying to do this.

A second big obstacle is operating cost: Unlike expressways, where the cost of operating the vehicles is paid by the individual owners, in public transit systems the operating cost must be paid by the system's owner (though ultimately passed on to the passenger and taxpayer).
This requirement scared off most transit experts because until recently, providing enough control redundancy in a fully automated vehicle to make it "human-rated" was a very expensive proposition.
Until recently another crucial item was still missing: Electric motors suitable for transit use were heavy and required either brushes--a huge maintenance cost when you're operating 1,500 vehicles per loop--or a complicated, expensive variable-frequency power supply.
