Concepts for Autonomous Flight Control for a Balloon on Mars
The authors conclude that a goal-driven autonomous control system for the Mars balloon can be constructed, and that the use of such a control system would increase the effectiveness of the scientific return, the safety of the balloon system, and the duration of its mission on Mars.
The issue of autonomous control must be viewed in the context of a series of ever-more complex balloon flights, occurring roughly every two years, for the long-term exploration of Mars.
The authors conclude that a goal-driven autonomous control system for the Mars balloon can be constructed, and that the use of such a control system would increase the effectiveness of the balloon system, both by providing an improved science return and by increasing the level of safety.

Autonomous robot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Autonomous robots are robots which can perform desired tasks in unstructured environments without continuous human guidance.
Some modern factory robots are "autonomous" within the strict confines of their direct environment.
One important area of robotics research is to enable the robot to cope with its environment whether this be on land, underwater, in the air, underground or in space.

Autonomous building - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An autonomous building is a building designed to be operated independently from infrastructural support services such as the electric power grid, municipal water systems, sewage treatment systems, storm drains, communication services, and (in some cases) public roads.
Autonomous buildings can increase security and reduce environmental impacts by using on-site resources (such as sunlight and rain) that would otherwise be wasted.
Autonomous buildings are usually energy-efficient in operation, and therefore cost-efficient, for the obvious reason that smaller energy needs are easier to satisfy off-grid.

Autonomous communities of Spain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spain's fifty provinces (provincias) are grouped into seventeen autonomous communities (comunidades autónomas), in addition to two African autonomous cities (ciudades autónomas) (Ceuta and Melilla).
The autonomous communities have wide legislative and executive autonomy, with their own parliaments and regional governments.
However, while the Constitution was still being draft, there was a popular outcry in Andalusia for its own right to autonomy, with over million and a half people demonstrating in the streets of Andalusia on 4th December 1977.

Autonomous entity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An autonomous (subnational) entity is a subnational entity that has a certain amount of autonomy.
Typically an autonomous entity contains a national minority which is different from the national majority, or is geographically distinct.

Autonomous systems are sets of gateways, not nets or hosts, so that a given net or host can be reachable via more than one system; however, every gateway belongs to exactly one system.

Autonomous vehicles, like any engineering project, need to be designed around the task they must perform, and we keep this in mind in all our projects.
The autonomous vehicle lab was founded by Professor Michael Holden and is based on his industry experience building commercial autonomous vehicles.
Autonomous vehicles are different than remotely piloted vehicles in that they carry computing and sensors on board to carry out their assigned task without further guidance.

RFC 3065 (rfc3065) - Autonomous System Confederations for BGP   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
This document describes an extension to BGP which may be used to create a confederation of autonomous systems that is represented as a single autonomous system to BGP peers external to the confederation, thereby removing the "full mesh" requirement.
Subdividing a large autonomous system allows a significant reduction in the total number of intra-domain BGP connections, as the connectivity requirements simplify to the model used for inter-domain connections.
However, there is usually no need to expose the internal topology of this divided autonomous system, which means it is possible to regard a collection of autonomous systems under a common administration as a single entity or autonomous system when viewed from outside the confines of the confederation of autonomous systems itself.

 Formal Verification of Autonomous Systems
Autonomous systems, especially those in safety-critical applications, must be extremely reliable.
Many autonomous systems are developed using specialized languages (both procedural and model-based) that are tuned to particular roles, such as planning, plan execution, fault diagnosis, and real-time control.
Our general approach (illustrated below) is to automate the translation of autonomous system software and specifications into the SMV model-checking language, perform model checking using standard algorithms, translate counter-examples back into terms that are meaningful to the software developer, and then provide tools for visualizing and explaining the counter-examples.

Draper Laboratory - Autonomous Systems   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
The evolution of Draper Laboratory’s expertise in autonomous vehicle management systems can be traced to our pioneering work during the 1950s and 60s in designing the autonomous guidance, navigation, and control (GNandC) systems for NASA’s Apollo spacecraft and the autonomous guidance systems for all the U.S. Navy’s undersea-launched ballistic missiles.
In the area of autonomous mission management, Draper’s mission controllers provide the ability to plan missions dynamically, command subsystems within the vehicle management system, generate situation awareness, adapt to unanticipated events, and monitor systems and diagnose their failures.
Our autonomous mission controllers use man-machine collaborative autonomy, which allows systems to be implemented with variable levels of autonomy.

Autonomous Interface Agents   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Autonomous interface agents lead to a somewhat different design style, brought on by the possibility that the agent may need to interact with the interface while the user is also interacting with the interface.
An agent may have the capability to run autonomously without needing to interact through graphical interface operations [except in the trivial sense in which displaying any text to the user is part of a user interface].
The user must be able to directly observe autonomous actions of the agent and the agent must be able to observe actions taken autonomously by the user in the interface.

 BGP Hide Local-Autonomous System
This feature allows you to transparently change the autonomous system number for the entire BGP network and ensure that routes can be propagated throughout the autonomous system, while the autonomous system number transition is incomplete.
Changing the autonomous system number may be necessary when 2 separate BGP networks are combined under a single autonomous system.
Because the local autonomous system number is not prepended to these routes, external routes will not be rejected by internal peers during the transition from one autonomous system number to another.

 Introduction
Autonomous Transactions allow you to create a new subtransaction that may commit or rollback changes independent of the parent transaction.
Prior to autonomous transactions, the commit in the subroutine INSERT_INTO_T would have committed not only the work it performed (the insert of ‘1’) but any outstanding work the session had performed and not yet committed (the insert of ‘-1’ in the anonymous block).
Now with autonomous transactions we can securely capture the audit of an attempted operation as well as roll back that operation – giving us the ability to tell the end user – you cannot modify that data and we have a record of you attempting to modify it.
