The Auxiliary Pilot Badge was a decoration of the United States military which was issued during the years of the Second World War.
The Auxiliary Pilot Badge was presented to members of the United States Army Air Forces and was authorized in three designs.
The Liaison Pilot Badge was presented to military aviators assigned as permanent liaisons to the Air Forces of allied countries, such as the Royal Air Force and French Air Force.

Enlisted pilots were given their own embroidered wings with a four-bladed prop in the center, but it was worn on the sleeve.
Also appearing were new pilot wings, with initials on the shield--"G" for glider pilots, "L" for light-plane liaison pilots, and "S" for service pilots brought in already qualified to fly.
It said that the badge could be given to any USAF pilot who had flown to an altitude of at least fifty miles.

On March 19, 1946, the District Commodores and Directors of the Auxiliary held a three-day conference at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington.
In 1967 the Coast Guard took the Auxiliary with it from the Department of the Treasury to the Department of Transportation.

Pilots from the 11th District, operating out of Vail Field in Los Angeles, flew SAR patrols over the mountains and deserts of southern California.
The Navigator is subtitled "an official informational and educational tool for the Coast Guard Auxiliary." It serves as a means by which the National Board communicates policy and regulation changes, announces the recipients of awards, and passes on ideas to improve the Auxiliary's operations and programs.
But, the group noted, "the present size of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is not large enough to satisfy Coast Guard requirements from the present to the year 2000." In order to keep up with the demands of the recreational boating community, Auxiliary membership needed to expand at a rate of about three percent per year.

Behind the helmet were the usual crossed swords, and a wreath of laurels surrounding the badge with a ribbon at the base.

The rivets are domed with a slight flat area but not at the tops, and the swastika was not very well filed out between the upper left arm and the center upright.
Erich, your badge is fine...I have one just like it that came in a grouping along with the guy's docs, pics, other medals, dagger etc. The group was acquired directly rom the recipient
I was trying to work it out based on the pilot's badge criterion.

On 21st October, 1940, whilst flown by pilot officer S J Hill it shared in the destruction of a Ju88 which was 609 Squadron's 100th victory.
As a sergeant pilot he was credited with being the first to bring down an enemy aircraft over London during the Battle of Britain whilst with 504 County of Nottingham Squadron flying Hawker Hurricane P2725.
He was the first British pilot to fly a British aircraft at Mach 1 in level flight, and later at Mach 2.

The badge is not maker marked but the quality is there a great strike with minor scratches on the swaz.
The badge is BSW marked and in basically the same state as it was packed eons ago.
Another early badge out of my collection the wreath still retains most of the gold wash finish the ocean and water spout are with out finish.

In my limited experience of such documents, an Admiralty Warrant granting the right to fly a defaced blue ensign also specifically mentioned an accompanying defaced blue jack, and this is repeated in those more recently issued by the Ministry of Defence.
It is undated (but was sent with an accompanying letter of 3 July 2000) and also confers the right to fly a defaced blue jack.
