We have found that there are no actual campgrounds in Venezuela that are set up for travelers like us with a vehicle with living quarters, so we have started looking for posadas, hotels and even gas stations that have large parking areas that are open to us.
It spills off of one of the largest tepuis, Auyantepui, (which means "Mountain of the God of Evil" in the Pemon language.
We took several photos as we approached as we knew that it was possible for clouds to settle in and that we might not see the falls clearly again.

As we have already stated, after their eventful landing, the Rio Caroni was abandoned on top of the Auyantepui, to remain there until the early months of 1970.
Thus, in 1938 the New York American Museum of Natural History sponsored a scientific expedition to the top of the Auyantepui, and returned with many plant and animal species that could not be found anywhere else in the world.

Auyantepui means "Devil Mountain." Matawi Tepui, also known as Kukeyan, means "place to die." The word "tepui" (prounounced "tepwee") itself means simply "mountain." According to Pemón beliefs, spirits that can steal human souls -- known as "mawari" -- live on these mountains.
Until fairly recently, that was reason enough to keep most Pemón from scaling their towering heights.
Angel Falls is the tallest waterfall in the world, tumbling some 3,212 feet from the top of Auyantepui.
