  Avada Kedavra
Avada Kedavra is an ancient Arabic charm, to supposedly cause instant death.
In common language, the word kedavra has evolved into cedaverm, meaning dead body.
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (American Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone), Voldemort used this curse to kill Harry's parents.

 Avada Kedavra: CJV Translation
Avada Kedavra is the Killing Curse, one of the Unforgiveable Curses.
At instalment 29, where the spell is introduced to the Hogwarts students, the translator gives a footnote explaining the meaning of Avada Kedavra.
That is, Avada Kedavra is derived from 'Avatar cadaver', with the two words 'avatar' and 'cadaver' glossed as hiện hình 'to appear, show oneself' and xác chết 'corpse, dead body'.

Later on when Avada gets more members, more subjects may be added for students to choose and take, but for now, this is what you get.

Avada Kedavra - An editorial by Daniela Teo.
The Avada Kedavra curse opens the Goblet of Fire, is formally taught by Impostor Moody in DADA, and makes the first victim of the series in the climactic chapter "Flesh, Blood, and Bone." It is a killing unforgivable curse that no one has ever been able to block (with the exception of baby Harry).
Lupin and Sirius were most likely going to use Avada Kedavra on Peter Pettigrew in the Shrieking Shack, given that it seems the most "humane" way to "execute" someone.

All in all, even though Dolohov did not use the words Avada Kedavra, the curse still hit the target, and Hermione went down without the slightest trace of a physical injury –just like Cedric and the spider in Moody’s classroom.
Please note that when the words Avada Kedavra are spoken, green light flashes and then there is an INVISIBLE stream to the victim (such as Cedric or the spider).
But if for any reason the words Avada Kedavra cannot be spoken, the next major color is visible: Purple.

Avada Kedavra, like almost everything else in my life, is entirely fandom related.
The name of the curse that made Harry Potter famous (in the books, anyway) Avada Kedavra is an 'unforgivable' curse - a death curse - used on James and Lily Potter (Harry's parents) and, of course, dear departed Cedric Diggory.
Anyone that knows me would know my penchant for all things dark - Vampires, Colours, Artwork - and could possibly have predicted the name I chose for the domain.

Perhaps there are other ways to kill with the wand?
Well, technically you could kill without the killing curse (ex: levitate someone 400 yards in the air and drop them) but I think Avada Kedavra is probably the "most efficient" and most politically correct way (though I am NOT saying that it's politically correct to murder someone!).
My guess is that Harry would've probably tried to curse Pettigrew to death.
