Wings in middle of Datsyuk drama - 9/11/05   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
There is history to Avangard Omsk's signing of Datsyuk that has nothing to do with the Red Wings or the NHL and everything to do with the Russian Super League team's rivalry with Moscow Dynamo.
Omsk is a multinational industrial center (machine building, tool manufacturing, electrical engineering, electronics, petrochemistry, rockets and rocket engines) in a beautiful region of Russia with freshwater lakes and a rich oil region to the north.
Omsk is in Siberia but it's not in the dark ages -- and Avangard can afford to pay Datsyuk whatever it wants, if it wants.
