The Avenue of the Dead was the main street of Teotihuacan.
According to Millon (Cowgill 1992a:96; Millon 1981:221), the avenue continued even further south, terminating near the edge of the mountains that can be seen in the background of this photo.
The main sector of the avenue was evidently the section between the Moon Pyramid and the Rio San Juan channel.

The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology is a fully supported graduate program at Bryn Mawr and part of the The Graduate Group in Archaeology, Classics and History of Art.
It assumed its status as an independent department in 1914 with the appointment of Rhys Carpenter, after whom the art and archaeology library (Rhys Carpenter Library), which received an award-winning new building in 1997, is named.

 Fieldwork
Stonehenge may not usually be thought of as a 'riverside' site but its link to the River Avon via the Avenue, (together with the presence upsteam of the monument complex of Woodhenge and Durrington Walls) highlights a stretch of river which could have had significance as a funerary and processional route in the Later Neolithic.
One of the entrances of Durrington Walls faces southeast towards the river and we wanted to find out whether it too had an 'avenue' linking the monument to the river.
We do not know for certain whether there was a ceremonial avenue linking the henge enclosure to the river.

The sixth annual Archaeology Challenge contest will be held in the 2005–2006 school year.
Information about the contest is being e-mailed during Archaeology Month to the principal of each public school building having students in any combination of grades 4–12.
In addition to receiving various awards at the regional and state levels, winners of the state contest, their parents, and their teachers will be invited to attend the annual Missouri Archaeological Society conference in the spring (perhaps late April) in St. Louis to display their entries and to receive additional recognition.

A phase is defined by groupings of artifacts and culture traits that occur during a particular time in a particular area.
In their book Archaeology of the Central Mississippi Valley, Dan and Phyllis Morse describe the Parkin-phase settlement pattern thusly: “Sites are literally strung like beads, with the two rivers representing the connecting cord.” The Parkin phase was named after the Parkin site which is near Neeley’s Ferry and is also on the St. Francis River.
This land, which is currently vacant, was once the location of one of two major villages, each of which were inhabited by an estimated 800 to 1,000 Seneca from approximately1640 to 1660.
