Averatec 3250- Notebook Computer Reviews by Mobile Tech Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
The Averatec 3250 is solidly built with a silver casing.
The Averatec has a standard notebook sized QWERTY keyboard; however the number key row is reduced in size to fit the keyboard in a subnotebook.
The Averatec 3250 comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports which are located towards front on the right side of the notebook.

Since then, Averatec actually updated their product page, confused a number of people, made others think the company was shady, and eventually updated their site again, removing some information.
Averatec issued its own press release, which mostly introduced a number of confusing details about the specifications.
Amazingly, an Averatec employee (I assume) responded that the picture in the manual is indeed the right one and that those pictures are of a dev unit or somesuch.

 Averatec intros ultra-light 1000 series, wide screen 4200 series - Engadget - www.engadget.com
Averatec is adding a couple of portables to their lineup: the 1000 series is an ultra-portable 3.6 pound, 1-inch thick notebook with a 10.6-inch WXGA screen, Pentium M, 512MB RAM, 60-80GB HD, combo drive, 802.11b/g and 10/100 ethernet, and a combination 4-in-1 memory card reader supporting SD, MC, MMC and MS Pro.
Averatec is by far the worst laptop manufacturer out there.
I think this happens because Averatec has two different kinds of wireless cards in their laptops, and which one they install is unpredicatable (it doesn't seem to depend on the model).

Designed for highly mobile students and cost-conscious business travelers, the $1,199 (as of August 2005) Averatec 4200 thin-and-light laptop is priced low and offers plenty of features, including a DVD burner.
The lid of the Averatec 4200, however, is a solid shade of navy blue; the company will soon offer buyers their choice of four exterior colors.
An unusual size for a thin-and-light, the Averatec 4200's 13.3-inch wide-aspect display features a sharp 1,200x800 native resolution, but it is not as bright as we would like, even at the highest setting.

PC Pro: Product Reviews: Averatec 1000
Averatec claims the 1000 has a full-sized keyboard, but the punctuation and cursor keys are half-width, and the Enter key is half-height.
Averatec makes big claims about the TFT brightness too, quoting 240cd/m2, and there's no disputing its legibility during normal use.
It's a useful inclusion, but you might view Averatec's warranty with suspicion: just a year's collect-and-return cover is hardly reassuring, although it is upgradeable to three years for £149 (inc VAT).

As the most affordable member of Averatec’s 3200 Series lineup, the unit certainly isn’t built to be the fastest notebook in town or a high-end gaming rig, and its smallish 12.1-inch viewing screen and lack of DVD burning may be a detraction to some.
Nonetheless, the extremely compact and definitely cost-effective Averatec AV3250H1-01 features several impressive and forward-looking amenities and capabilities such as CD burning, wireless connectivity and a large hard drive, and is thusly a great match for frequent travelers on a budget.
I purchased an Averatec 3250 at the end of 2004 to lug with me on a 3-month around-the-world trip, primarily to stay in touch via email, do my personal expenses/pay bills, download and upload digital photos, create my travel website and maybe watch a movie from time to time.

 Averatec 6200 Review
The company's site says "Mobile Theater," not "Media Center PC"; shoppers need to be clear that the new Averatec 6200 runs Windows XP Home Edition, not Media Center Edition 2004, and doesn't have a TV tuner for watching or DVD burner for recording shows.
What the $1,250 notebook does have is the ability to play movies or music without booting Windows at all: Buttons on its front edge, on either side of a small backlit minute-counter LCD like that of a VCR, let you use the Athlon XP-M 2400+ computer as a personal DVD or CD player.
We should note that your airplane seatmates won't have to listen to your film of choice, since microphone and headphone jacks are found on the Averatec's front edge, next to the LCD and volume up/down, play/pause, previous/next track, stop/eject, control menu, and power buttons for the DVD/CD player.

I switched back to the plain old vesafb driver and all was right with the world, the system booted, I got the penguin logo and we were off and running.
However, that’s interrupted time, i.e, work or surf a bit, put it to sleep (using software suspend 2), wake it up, surf some more, etc. Continuous use might be a bit longer, as I’m sure boot up is more battery intensive than just sitting idle.
I’ve also found the unofficial averatec user support forums which have lots of good info on the machine and pointers to other resources.

 HardwareCentral - Reviews - Averatec 3150P Review - ACompactBargainWithJustOneProblem
Newcomer Averatec's, however, is a 4.5-pound subnotebook that measures just 9.6 by 10.6 by 1.2 inches -- yet has a bright 12.1-inch, active-matrix screen, AMD Athlon XP-M 1600+ processor, 30GB hard disk, and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, not to mention 802.11b wireless as well as 10/100Mbps Ethernet, 56Kbps modem, and USB 2.0 ports.
Part of the problem was the keys' flat, rubbery feel and space-squeezed layout: While there are dedicated Home and End keys at the top right, their cursor-control colleagues PgUp and PgDn are relegated to auxiliary duty (with the usual Fn or special shift key) on the up and down arrows.
(Of two other Averatec reviews we've seen, one warned the keyboard was "spongy" and the other didn't mention anything about using the system other than specs and benchmarks.) As is, we'd gladly pay $100 more for the same computer with a better keyboard -- it would still be an impressive bargain.
