Topic: Aviculture

Aviculture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aviculture is the practice of keeping and often breeding pet birds, generally companion parrots, and the culture that forms around it.
Aviculture is generally focused not just on the raising and breeding of birds, but also on preserving avian habitat, and public awareness campaigns.
There are avicultural societies throughout the world, but generally in Europe and the United States, where people tend to be more prosperous and have more leisure time to invest in such an expensive and time-consuming hobby.

 WPT > Publications > Aviculture
In the avicultural world there are some who are not genuinely concerned about the welfare of birds, and who are prepared to act illegally, either for profit or to satisfy the 'collecting mania' that can sometimes be seen.
The concept of 'responsible aviculture', conceived and promoted by The World Parrot Trust, is gaining ground, encouraging high standards in avicultural practice, and the need to accept a degree of responsibility for the conservation of wild populations, from which all captive birds have sprung.
Aviculture is an ancient and natural human pastime which gives pleasure to millions of people.

Avian Welfare Resource Center from the Avian Welfare Coalition - Aviculture and Animal Welfare: What Is The Difference; ...
For instance, avicultural organizations (whose members may include breeders and bird "owners") resist and lobby against legislation that would protect unweaned chicks and endangered parrots in the wild and regulate breeding and/or "ownership." Avicultural organizations claim "conservation" as a reason for breeding.
Avicultural organizations often ignore the problem of unwanted parrots in captivity and oppose regulations meant to protect these parrots.
Avicultural and welfare groups must first come to the agreement that this problem exists in the first place, and that it is not just about the individual bird who is a companion — it is about the welfare of every bird in captivity.

Avian Welfare Resource Center from the Avian Welfare Coalition - Aviculture is a Broken Car by Sybil Erden, Director, ...
Well, maybe Aviculture isn't a broken car…Maybe Aviculture is the manufacturer of cars, a manufacturer who sells the notion that it is so good that it can't break…and as a result doesn't plan for the future.
Aviculture has been telling the public for years that there are no unwanted birds.
If Aviculture were a Ford or Chevy or Hyundai manufacturer and told us that (1) their cars don't break and won't break and that (2) as a result of statement #1 they do not need to create spare parts nor do they need to train mechanics, we would laugh in their faces.

As a result, there are many mixed heritage Eclectus in present avicultural circles, which are an easy source of confusion when attempting to identify any one bird in question.
