Debate Continues on Fieldability of Visual Servoing. . . .by Winn Hardin, Contributing Editor, Courtesy AIA's ...
A rope is connected to the target, and the robot is instructed to guide itself to the target while a person yanks on the rope, moving the target in random directions.
Kak instills robustness in his visual servoing system by taking two different vision-guidance approaches: one based on feature extraction that generates position 3D data at 30 fps, and another 3D model-based approach that generates data at 7 fps.
One of the reasons that Purdue's Kak has been able to wow the crowds is because of his ability to tightly integrate the vision system with the robot controller.

With regard to the pathbreaking contributions made by Kak and his collaborators: In 1989, Chen and Kak published 3D-POLY that is still the fastest algorithm for recognizing 3D objects in depth maps.
In 2003, a group of researchers that included Kak developed a tool for content-based image retrieval that was demonstrated by clinical trials to markedly improve the performance of radiologists.

 Khaleej Times - Online
It isn't wrong for a film star to support a particular party, but is it right for them to use their status as a star to attract and directly or indirectly influence the illiterate masses in favour of a particular political party?
THE reply that Avinash Kak gave ('Blame it on capitalism, February 7) to Debashish Chakraborty's critique ('Example of Argentina', February 4) got me thinking.
Kak has reflexively branded Chakraborty as a 'leftist'.

Purdue, Olympus Corp. creating technology for sensor networks
"Right now we are interested in developing the core technology of these sensor networks," said Avinash Kak, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of Purdue's Robot Vision Laboratory.
At the opposite end of the age spectrum, such sensor networks could be ideal for monitoring and protecting young children in daycare and classroom settings.
"But how that gets deployed for the benefit of mankind will take longer to determine and will depend on the feedback we get from people during additional research," said Kak, who has been working on sensor research for 25 years and whose lab is a national leader in work dealing with vision sensors.

Medical Design Magazine :: Sensors Keep Tabs on Elderly and Young
Engineers leading the research at Purdue University and Olympus Corp. envision smart devices worn by the elderly and impaired.
"Each sensor will have its own internal computer," says Avinash Kak, a Purdue professor of electrical and computer engineering.
It is possible that you may want sensors to monitor your movements and give feedback on whether or not you are headed in the right direction so that you don't fall into a swimming pool or collide with stationary or moving objects and other people," says Kak.

Questions in regards to learning C, C++ and Java... - LinuxQuestions.org
I didn't learn C from a textbook so I can't recommend a good text for that, though I have heard many good things about KandR's book on C. Once you have a solid understanding of C (including arrays, strings, linked lists, multiple levels of pointers, etc.), then I recommend this book:
"Programming with Objects" by Avinash Kak is the best programming book I have ever read.
PwO assumes you have a firm concept of C, and it will teach you both C++ and Java simulatenously.
