		Avondale is a neighborhood located on the Northwest Side of Chicago, Illinois.
		Its main borders are the North Branch of the Chicago River, Diversey Avenue, Addison Street and Pulaski Road; bisecting the community are Belmont and Milwaukee Avenues along with the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/Interstate 94).
		An early racially-integrated suburb, Avondale became part of Chicago when the city annexed the Town of Jefferson in 1889.

		The Avondale Community Area lies west of the North Branch of the Chicago River between Addison on the north and Diversey on the south.
		Avondale developed along this road, as well as along the railroad lines that subsequently paralleled it west of the Chicago River.
		More farms appeared after the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific tracks were extended to Milwaukee in 1870, and in 1873, a post office was built at the corner of Belmont and Troy where the Chicago and North Western Railway made a stop.

		Avondale Park became part of the Chicago Park District in 1934, when the Great Depression necessitated the consolidation of the city's 22 independent park agencies.
		Eliminating Avondale Park's playfield and tennis courts, the park district redesigned the site to incorporate volleyball and basketball courts and a swimming pool.
		In the early 1990s, the park district installed a new soft surface playground in Avondale Park, and replanted its landscape.
