The Avro Arrow was a twin engine, supersonic interceptor developed in the late 1950's by the Avro Aircraft company of Malton, Ontario, Canada.
The Arrow was the follow on to Avro's first military design, the highly succesful CF-100 Canuck, a twin engine all weather interceptor sold to the Royal Canadian Air Force (600+) and to Belgium (53).

Avro was a British aircraft manufacturer, well known for planes such as the Avro Lancaster which served in World War II.
The Royal Flight of the United Kingdom bought a few and a variant with a rear-loading ramp and a "kneeling" main undercarriage was sold to the RAF and several members of the Commonwealth as the Andover, named after a town in Hampshire.
When the company was absorbed into Hawker Siddeley Aviation in July 1963 the Avro name seemed to have disappeared forever but the brand had such a strong heritage appeal that the marketing name "Avro RJ" (regional jet) was applied to the British Aerospace 146 from 1994 to 2001.

However, the Avro 504 was not a successful combat aircraft and they were withdrawn from the Western Front at the end of 1914.
This Avro was withdrawn from front-line action during the summer of 1915 and for the rest of the war was used as a training aircraft.

The Canada Aviation Museum's Avro 504K D8971 G-CYCK was originally built in 1918 by the Grahame-White Aviation Co. The aircraft was traded by several different owners before being acquired by the RCAF and resored to flying condition in 1966-67.
Avro 504K marked as G-CYFG was restored by Cole Palen of Rhinebeck, NY and later traded/sold to the RCAF to be flown along side D8971.
Avro 504K, ZK-ACU was one of six 504's purchased by the New Zealand Government in 1925 for currency training of New Zealand military pilots.

The Avro 748 was a small short-range turboprop airliner designed by Avro in the late 1950s as a replacement for the now-aged DC-3's then in widespread service as feederliners.
Avro concentrated on performance, notably for STOL operations, and found a dedicated market and 380 aircraft were built.

The origins of the Avro 707 are intertwined with those of the Avro Vulcan.
For various reasons, the early Avro 707s took too long to reach the flight test stage, and consequently their direct contribution to the Type 698 Vulcan programme was comparatively small.

n 1952, Avro Aircraft Ltd., a Canadian firm located at Malton near Toronto, began to develop a unique, supersonic fighter-bomber aircraft that could takeoff and land vertically, cruise at low altitudes on a cushion of air (also called ground effect) or accelerate to high speeds at higher altitudes.
Avro had named it Project Y but the U. Department of Defense labeled it Weapon System 606A.
The motion was unique and needed a name so Avro called it "hubcapping." Hubcapping occurred when the cushion of air supporting the aircraft close to the ground became unstable.

As early as 1954, the anonymous European author of one version of the “V-7” or “Nazi saucer” yarn wove the Avro saucer into his tale; he informed his readers that the V-7's creator, “Dr. Heinrich Richard Miethe,” was at that time in Canada, reconstructing his wonderful craft under the auspices of A.V. Roe (Avro).
When (and if) the Avro saucer finally flies in public, we may expect to see many editors come up with this fatuous “now it's all explained” reaction.
The emphasis on flying close to the ground, however, probably reflects confusion between the Avro craft and several “ground effect” devices that were shown to the House Space Committee on April 13, 1959.

 The Avro CF-105 Arrow
Of the postwar aircraft produced by Avro Canada, the most important was the Avro "CF-100 Canuck", a big twin-engined straight-winged jet interceptor.
In April 1953, after a year of analysis by Avro, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) presented a requirement for a twin-engined, two-seat interceptor with a maximum speed of Mach 2, a maximum ceiling of 18.3 kilometers (60,000 feet), and a combat radius of 370 kilometers (200 nautical miles).
The Avro team originally selected the new Rolls-Royce RB.106, but development of that engine was delayed in turn, and the Pratt and Whitney J75, used on the Republic F-105 Thunderchief and Convair F-106 Delta Dart, was chosen to power the preproduction prototypes, which were designated "Mark 1".
