The Avro CF-105 Arrow was a tail-less[?] delta-wing interceptor aircraft, designed and built by Avro Canada during a short period of time in the 1950s.
Avro objected to this choice on the grounds that neither of these pieces were even in testing at that point, whereas both the MX-1179 and Falcon were almost ready to go.
Although the Arrow was not the first plane to use such a system, it was one of the first, and the concept had not yet developed into the science it is today.

The Arrow was a huge, twin-engined delta-winged interceptor that in completion would have been able to attain Mach 2.5, but costs and changing mission requirements kept it from ever leaving the prototype stage.
The high costs of the Arrow are given by some as a compelling reason for the government to cancel the aircraft, while others maintain that costs were inflated by unrealistic assumptions.
There is little doubt that the Arrow would have been a magnificent aircraft, and it was certainly a shame the Iroquois-powered prototypes never flew, but on the same coin it is apparent that the program was extremely ambitious and risky.

The Arrow was hailed as the definitive interceptor, and the projected future versions were intended to fly faster and higher, to carry even more expensive electronics, and to be more effective in killing bombers.

The Arrow was created to replace the CF-100, which had been Canada's front line fighter for a number of years, and the RCAF believed that with the Cold War at hand, the frontline fighter should be changed to meet the new threats.
Even while Avro was looking at the specifications that the RCAF needed for their new interceptor, and coming up with a design that would meet them, some members of parliament thought that it would still be best if the CF-100 was replaced with an existing aircraft, preferably one to be purchased from the United States.
Avro also said that if they were to produce and deliver 100 aircraft with the even cheaper, but almost as good MA-1 fire control system, they could reduce the unit price even more, to $3.75 million, and would be able to produce four aircraft in the same amount of money the government allotted for one.
