Kagawa is a relatively narrow prefecture between the mountains of Shikoku and the sea.
On April 1, 2002 five towns in the western part of Okawa (Shido, Tsuda, Nagao, Sangawa, and Okawa) merged to form the city of Sanuki.
The remaining three towns (Hiketa, Shirotori, and Ohchi) merged on April 1, 2003 to form the city of Higashikagawa, at which point the district ceased to exist.

As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 95,120 and a density of 497.57 persons per km².

A bolide was recorded in the ChoybalvAn district, at Uudiin, 48'15'N., 115'10'E., on the Kerulen river, on 21 March, 1950, at about 0100 hrs., and numerous pieces of a vesicular slaggy mass, totalling 27.78kg, were collected and sent to Ulan-Bator, The description may be similar to that of the problematical Igast object.
A large stone was said by natives to have fallen near their village some years before 1905 and was held as sacred.
