The school was previously a mixed sex school but then parted and the girls' school became Aylesbury High School for girls, which is across the road from the boys' school.
The school is a single sex male grammar school which takes about 1,250 pupils, and its entry requirements are dictated by an exam taken at the age of 11.
In September 1997 the school was awarded specialist school status in Technology, and then Language in April 2006.

The original founder of the Aylesbury Free School (or Aylesbury Grammar School as it became known), was Sir Henry Lee K.G., who was the Lord of Fleet Marston and Quarrendon.
The original endowment of the Aylesbury School by Sir Henry Lee, is reported to have been valued at about £8 per year, and consisted of two messuages vested in certain trustees, one of whom was the Vicar of Aylesbury.
12th February, 1723 - At a meeting of the trustees immediately succeeding the death of William Meade, it was resolved that the school be a free-school for boys, being sons of inhabitants of Aylesbury and Walton, according to the Decree of the Court of Chancery.

Not the first master but the master at the end of the 1800's was Thomas Frater he was the Headmaster and he was aided by his wife Caroline and later by his daughter Agnes and she later married Mr Thomas Holt who had lived at Shakespeare Farm.
She was the infant teacher I think the School house is behind there you have got one on the slides.
We had to cycle not right to Aylesbury but you know where the Quainton road is along the A41 beyond Westcott well there was a Station there and the old trams as we called them used to come from Brill come along this line and we had to get on at the level crossing there.

World Challenge Expeditions was interested in bringing school groups to Nepal to work with local communities on conservation projects and approached KEEP after hearing about KEEP's long-term involvement in conservation activities in Nepal.
They have constructed toilets for the schools, refurbished the entire school by re-painting them, weeding their lawn, landscaping and also helped in conservational effort of the community.

 UK School Aid - HOME
We held a non-uniform day for the school and individual pupils showed their initiative and desire to boost the funds by holding a wide range of fundraisers such as cake stalls, sponsored silences, penalty shoot outs etc. We raised over £1,200.
The school raised over £3000 via donations, bring and buy sale, cake bakes etc. In conjunction with the Rotary Club the school was able to purchase survival boxes and aqua boxes as part of the relief effort.
A total of £411 was raised which was extremely encouranging as we only have 30 pupils in school, but everybody took part and we were really pleased with the number of parents, grandparents and friends who came and gave their support.

At each heat, the teams representing the schools and colleges participating in the 'Challenge' are taking on the role of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee and making a presentation to a panel of Bank of England judges.
The team from Royal Latin School in Buckingham were the winners of the regional heat held at the Unipart Conference Centre in Cowley on 21 November.
The team from Aylesbury Grammar School in Aylesbury were the runners up in this heat, they recommended an interest rate of 6%.

Given that, realistically, Greek is unlikely to be a viable option in Year 10, JWF has tried to encourage the occasional interested Sixth Former to borrow the JACT ‘Reading Greek’ course which is geared up to self teaching with a little teacher support.
JACT (Joint Association of Classical Teachers) also organise an annual Summer School at Bryanston which provides an excellent introduction to Greek; pupils are informed of this Summer School.
In addition to the Set Text studied in Year 12, pupils read as widely as time permits in the works of a variety of other prose and verse authors in the ‘Oxford Latin Reader’ to prepare for the Unprepared Translation Paper 1 (Unit Code 2492).
