Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) - 14-19 Learning - Case studies on using AS critical thinking
Because of the lack of expertise in the subject in the school, it was decided to use a commercial distance-learning scheme.
Through a collaborative venture between Coulsdon High School and Coulsdon College in Croydon, a year 10 critical thinking group from the school is taught by lecturers from the nearby college.
As the school does not have a sixth form, it was their first experience of teaching AS (though they now provide an AS-level course in ICT for students who take GCSE ICT in year 10).

 Aylesbury Grammar School
The original founder of the Aylesbury Free School (or Aylesbury Grammar School as it became known), was Sir Henry Lee K.G., who was the Lord of Fleet Marston and Quarrendon.
The original endowment of the Aylesbury School by Sir Henry Lee, is reported to have been valued at about £8 per year, and consisted of two messuages vested in certain trustees, one of whom was the Vicar of Aylesbury.
In 1903, the school was altered yet again, this time to a secondary school, with no Lower School attached, and had become almost exclusively fee-paying, except for a few scholarships.

 School in Focus
At Aylesbury High School in Buckinghamshire, citizenship is more than a subject on the curriculum; it drives pupils' interaction with peers, teachers, parents and the wider community — from work with local charities to world leaders at international summits.
As a result of peer-led education, whole-school assemblies, articles in the school's newsletter and media interest, students throughout the school are much more aware of citizenship issues and the meaning of active citizenship, says Brenda.
Nevertheless, Brenda wholeheartedly recommends similar programmes to other schools — and advises them to look to their own students to take on some of the extra responsibility: "We have learnt to trust in students' abilities to lead programmes if they have sufficient guidance.

 OUP's Surprising 'Charitable Status'
When the Inland Revenue privately decided in 1976 in CUP''s favour, there was thus no reasoned judgment to dissect, no law report to ponder, no solemn written conditions or undertakings, and not a single mention of the momentous ruling in any newspaper.
Perhaps, therefore, it is now high time to re-examine Cass's 'crucial items' of 1975 to see how they have fared over the years, and to decide, for example, how they relate to OUP's current ethos and latest grand munificence.
Cass's first argument was that from the constitutional and legal point of view CUP had no separate corporate status apart from 'the Chancellor, Masters, and Scholars of the University of Cambridge', itself an educational charity.
