Because the Aymara were conquered and absorbed by the Inca Empire about the late 15th century, much of the music of this group is based around the Inca pentatonic (five-tone) scale.
This example illustrates the combination of traditional Aymaran music with European stringed instruments.
It is taken from a composition called “Song of the Condor.” The condor is a powerful symbol among the Aymara, and its appearance is a good omen for all.

Aymaran and Quechuan peasant farmers in the Andean highlands, for example, "constitute the bulk of the extremely poor in the country" (World Bank, 1996:183).
The main problems faced by rural (indigenous) communities, and the significant factors in their high levels of poverty and malnourishment, are the lack of access to a productive land-base, lack of local infrastructure, such as roads, clean water, and electricity, and highly restricted access to basic services such as health care and educational provision (op.cit:182).

Central Aymaran is spoken in a relatively small area near Lima, over 500 miles north of Southern Aymaran, and is probably the remnant of a more widespread Aymaran speech community that occupied much of northern and central Peru before the Quechuan expansion.

That is, we do not use the terms some writers in English have used, adding an –n to give an adjective form also to be used for referring to the whole family:  Quechuan, Aymaran, and the putative Quechumaran.
So some writers have sought to use this –n to distinguish between the Aymaran family, of which the Aymara language is just one of the surviving languages (albeit by far the most biggest), alongside the little known and endangered Jaqaru/Kawki language(s).
Alongside Aymaran in English, other forms coined by linguists for to refer specifically to the family as a whole are Aru proposed by Alfredo Torero, and Jaqi proposed by Martha Hardman.
