		The road from Wheathampstead to Codicote forms the south-eastern boundary of the parish, but the village of Ayot St. Lawrence is situated about a mile to the north, and is reached by three branch roads, of which the central one passes by Hill Farm.
		The manor of AYOT ST. LAWRENCE was given by Alwin of Godtone or Gottun, in the time of King Edward the Confessor, to the abbey of Westminster, and was confirmed to the abbey by that king about 1062.
		In 1489 Ayot St. Lawrence was said to be held of the king as of the honour of Mandeville, parcel of the duchy of Lancaster, by service of a sparrow-hawk at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula yearly, or payment of 2s.

		Ayot St Lawrence is a small village in Hertfordshire, between Harpenden and Welwyn.
		The old one, in the centre of the village, was partially demolished in 1775, because it was obstructing the view from Sir Lionel Lyde's new home.
		The new St Lawrence church was designed in a neo-classical style by Nicholas Revett and features a Palladian-style frontage with Doric columns.

	WICCAN TRADITION, Haunted Ayot St Lawrence
		This abandoned church at Ayot St Lawrence, falling into a state of disrepair was shown to me by Richard who I first met at Clophill church.
		He had taken some photographs within the church and after being developed had found they contained strange glowing light areas, (Richard was by trade a freelance photographer) and claims he did not doctor them.
		I went to this church on a couple of occasions, It is easy to find as it stands on the main road through the village of Ayot St Lawrence.
