 Waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales
Aysgarth Falls is a series of cascading falls separated into three forces, High, Middle and Low.
Beezley Falls is part of a series of waterfalls close to Ingleton and are part of the very popular 'Ingleton Waterfalls Walk' which comes second only to Aysgarth Falls in terms of visitors.
West Burton Falls (also known locally as Cauldron Falls) are easily reached by walking to the north end of the village and standing on the footbridge.

Aysgarth service 800 from West Yorkshire on Sundays and service 807 from Skipton, Ribblehead and Hawes on Summer Sundays.
The walk begins at the Palmer Flatts Hotel which is on the corner by the turning for Aysgarth Falls, half a mile east of Aysgarth village.
Note: this walk does not visit the famous falls at Aysgarth, which can be reached easily by a short diversion down the road at the side of the hotel.

Aysgarth is a small village half way along Wensleydale between Leyburn and Hawes.
Continue past the Palmer Flatts Hotel into Aysgarth Village and as you pass the George and Dragon Inn, Cornlee is on the right, next to the village green.
Aysgarth can be reached from the South via Skipton and Kettlewell or from the North via Swaledale by any number of small lanes and single-track roads that cross over the tops of the surrounding moors.

Aysgarth Falls is a well signposted tourist attraction.
The reason being that the middle fall has a rock shelf at the bottom of it (the same as all the falls) and it is a straight 20 foot lob onto it, nice.
The middle fall (Grade 4/ 5 in low water) was done by me in the club spud (there was thirty tourists watching and my ego got the better of me).

Pass through the kissing gate and continue straight ahead passing a gate on the right-hand side through which the walk returns from the Lower Falls.
Almost immediately the falls can be seen from a viewpoint, next to which are pictures etched into the stones making up the path.
Go though gate-stile in the wall passing a sign pointing in the reverse direction to "Aysgarth Falls", and continue on well worn path across the field towards the farm buildings in the foreground with Castle Bolton beyond.

The Middle and Lower Falls are not as large, but after rain the River Ure cascades with great force over them all for about half a mile.
The Falls are beautiful at any time of year, but perhaps at their most dramatic during the winter months and following heavy rain.
Aysgarth is on the route of the Herriot Way circular walk and many walkers start the Herriot Way walk from here.

The famous Aysgarth falls are ancient and began 300 million years ago.
Having completed a drawing of the church mentioned on the stroke of 7, I ventured to check the route to the Falls and upon finding Middle Force, was smitten good and proper with the urge to draw it.
Leaving the Falls, we noticed a most peculiar set of spaceship-like clouds above and proceeded through fields, following finger post signs to Castle Bolton (which incidentally did not correspond to the 2½ inch to a mile map I was referring to).

Aysgarth Falls is a great place to take a picnic, and then just lie back and enjoy the sun, and the sound of the water cascading over the falls, and children laughing and playing.
This pic is of the upper falls - and that's where most people might head to because of the large expanse of grass - great for picnics and playing - and also because the river is accessible here.

We even arrived in Aysgarth Falls in time for a pint of Black Sheep in the lovely little pub, which was thoughtfully situated next door to the youth hostel.
The remainder of our walk took us back up the other side of the valley and back to Aysgarth Falls (the waterfall had subsided considerably since Saturday).
The reserve coach had arrived from Nottingham and we made the return journey in good time and we were back in Nottingham by tea time at the end of a very eventful weekend.
