And there's something comforting in the familiar, especially in a storyline as dark as that of "Azati Prime", in which the galaxy's biggest weapon of mass destruction prepares for deployment while the two senior Enterprise crewmembers seem to have gone nuts.
From a special effects standpoint, "Azati Prime" is hard to top: it has spectacular visuals including surface and underwater sequences, breathtaking space shots and a climactic battle that wreaks havoc on Enterprise inside and out.
Where "Azati Prime" falls apart for me is in its wonky characterization of the two most important characters.

Usually, it's a HUGE Temporal Prime Directive "no-no" to inform someone of their future, but at this point, if Enterprise succeeding at its mission is the best way to set things as near "right" as possible, it would seem that such "tampering" would be appropriate.
I definitely remember that part of the original Prime Directive refers to non-interference UNLESS it is to "undo" something set in motion by prior interference.
As I remember from the "non temporal" TOS Prime Directive, the one time when it is ok to interfere with a culture is to repair damage already done by prior interference.

I liked Azati Prime - after I saw the whole thing - but still felt like they took the story in a whole new direction from even earlier in this season.
If you had read the comments near the end of Season 1 from the same people who posted here, you would have seen people who thought there were rough spots, but, for the most part, hoped for Enterprise to find its rhythem.
Again, because of "hit and miss" attention paid to it in the scripts, the filler episodes where nothing is said about the Xindi, and the extensive rerun schedule, I have lost track of that plot despite having seen every episode.

The build up to the crew reaching Azati Prime has been wonderfully built up over the last few episodes, so that when Enterprise finally reaches the system, it really feels like a momentous occasion — the end of a long quest.
But of course, this is only episode 18, and so we know it's not the end of the mission — but that doesn't stop this episode from having the pace, drama and tension of a season finale.
