The connotative meaning of Aztlan, due to the plumage of herons, is "Place of Whiteness." The mythical descriptions of Aztlan would have it to be an island, some where to the North.
There the cultural influence of the Toltecs upon the barbarous Aztecas was substantial to say the least, as they developed into a high civilization of their own in less then one hundred years, conquering the Tolteca, who hosted the wandering people of the desert.
Presently, we can only speculate on the actual physical location of Aztlan, is often appropriated as the portion of Mexico that was taken over by the United States after the Mexican-American War of 1846, reaching northward along the pacific coast to Northern California.

 Aztlan Underground: Sub-Verses Aversion.com Review
With a rap/metal sound and songs that attack American imperialism and racism, Aztlan Underground owes a massive debt to Rage Against the Machine as well as lesser-known bands like Downset and Urban Dance Squad.
Aztlan Underground has some seriously powerful themes working for it, though it’s a one-trick pony for the most part.
While all the songs on this band are aimed, and rightly so, at calling attention to the imperialism of the United States, there’s only a few moments when the band looks at the problems specific to south of the border ("Killing Season").
