When we discovered the Azumanga Daioh comics, we just had to bring this to people's attention.
Written and drawn by Azuma Kiyohiko, Azumanga is a 4-panel comic strip about a bunch of high school girls and some of their teachers.
It may not sound like much, but it's extremely funny, and feels like a Japanese Calvin and Hobbes (it's now an anime TV series).

Kiyohiko Azuma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In his manga, he uses the pen name "Kiyohiko Azuma" (あずまきよひこ Azuma Kiyohiko), which is identical in pronunciation to his real name, but spelled completely in hiragana.
Azuma's style of manga art is unique and unconnected to the shōjo and shōnen manga styles of the 1990s.
His original works deviate from standard manga plotlines; rather than base science-fiction or fantasy settings, Azuma's manga take place in a completely normal world, and the entertainment of his stories is derived almost solely from the well-developed personalities of his characters.

Koiwai, found her and took her in, but Azuma seems to hint that there's more to be explained about Yotsuba.
Koiwai sums up the reaction everyone seems to have to this little bundle of energy: "She can find happiness in anything," he says.

 About Kiyohiko Azuma
Born on 27th May 1968, Kiyohiko Azuma began his career creating short four panel comic strips for various Japanese publications.
Following the success of both the anime and manga versions of Azumanga Daioh the rights to Yotsubaand were snapped up by ADV Manga for western release and it seems certain to match the success of its predecessor in the US.

Well, the creator of the original manga is named Kiyohiko Azuma (Azuma + Manga = Azumanga) and the manga was first published in a magazine called Dengeki Daioh.
Kiyohiko Azuma’s Manga published in the Dengeki Daioh magazine ends up being Azumanga Daioh.
I have also heard it described as the Kanji used for Daioh meaning “great king” so it would be interpreted as “Great king Azuma’s manga”.

What the heck does this title mean, ask some people.
Well, Azuma titles every manga he does as "Azumanga" and Azumanga Daioh ran in Dengeki Daioh, hence the name.
Azuma has been saying in interviews that he couldn't come up with a title, so he kinda cut and pasted some words to create the title.

In a more slapstick tale, Yotsuba draws on her sleeping father's face with marker and then attempts to remove the marks with mayonnaise, making for some sidesplitting visuals.
The last episode has to do with Asagi's return trip from Okinawa, where she brings all sorts of things, and the family wonders what it means for something to be Okinawan style.
Asagi's souvenirs from Okinawa include a toy shisaa, the lion-dog guardians of Okinawa and sata andagi, fried donut holes, which was what the teenagers in AD experienced during their school trip.

Azumanga Daioh - Announcements - Class Bulletin
For those of you unfamiliar with the title, Azumanga Daioh follows the hilariously touching day-to-day adventures of a group of almost-ordinary high school girls and their extra-ordinary teachers and surroundings, in a manner reminiscent of Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes.
The original manga by Kiyohiko Azuma was published as a series of four-panel strips, much like the traditional comic strips published in American newspapers.
To reflect the concept of the manga, each episode of the Azumanga Daioh, anime consists of several loosely related, character-driven segments, many of which adapt Azuma’s original strips.
