		Braxton Bragg Comer was born November 7, 1848, at old Springs Hill, Barbour County, Alabama, the fourth son of John Fletcher and Catherine Drewry Comer.
		In 1864 Comer went to the University of Alabama, but in April of 1865 was forced to leave when General John T. Croxton's troops burned the university.
		Comer's primary interests as governor were in the areas of railroad rate regulation, education and prohibition.

		The project will be rewarding to library staff as they learn knew skills, volunteers and more importantly, to the senior citizens of the Sylacauga area; and, with time, it will heighten awareness of Comer Library as a resource center that reaches out to improve the quality of life for the elderly.

	Comer, Braxton Bragg
		Comer was staunchly anti-union, and there are many references in the correspondence to his opposition to union organizing in his own mills and his approval of the harsh treatment meted out to strikers by Governor Kilby in 1917.
		Comer wrote to his brother regarding the migration of African-American workers to the northern and western United States and the growing realization of those workers who remained of the value of their labor, as well as Comer's attempts to replace these workers through the efficient use of farm machinery.
		Comer responded that he was "in full accord that women should vote and am glad that the world is fast recognizing that she measures up to the best." Comer wrote in 1918 to Judge Denson expressing frustration with the "state's rights crowd" that wanted railroad bonds and higher taxation, and took money from the railroads.

	Comer Schools And Families Initiative
		The Comer Schools and Families Initiative is a collaborative effort that seeks to raise student achievement and promote healthy growth and development.
		Comer is a professor of psychiatry at the Yale University Child Study Center and established the model in 1968 in two elementary schools as a collaborative effort between Yale University Child Study Center and the New Haven Public Schools.
		The Comer process is not a "quick fix" nor is it an "add on." It is not just another new activity to be carried out along with other experiments and activities already underway in the school.

		James McDonald "Donald" Comer, one of nine children of Braxton Bragg Comer (governor of Alabama and later senator), was born on a Barbour County, Alabama, plantation on October 14, 1877.
