The A9 is a major road in Scotland, which runs from Edinburgh to Thurso and the A836.
The road here is close to the North Sea coast, which it follows for a further 15 miles (23 kilometres), passing through Berriedale and Dunbeath to reach Latheron.
Also in the Georgemas area the A9 is crossed by the B874, offering routes towards Lochshell and the A99 (near Wick) to the east/southeast, and towards Halkirk to the west.

 Westerdale to Hastigrow
The A895 road that you're crossing runs from Thurso to Latherton, which is on the east coast between Wick and Helmsdale; Mybster is virtually the last habitation going south, the intervening country consisting of more empty moors, the odd lochan and one or two isolated hills.
The road drops slightly now, accompanied by a forest plantation to the left that serves only to bring home the presence of the empty moorland of Flow of Seater on its far side.
The road is accompanied by forest plantation to both sides, and crosses the poetically named "bridge of gravity" after about half a mile.

A836 road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the road starts in Ross and Cromarty and ends in Caithness, the majority of its length is in Sutherland.
East of the River Thurso the road regains its own identity and is there linked south by the A9 to the A836 itself near Tain, and to Inverness, Perth and Falkirk.
The road's length terminates in John o' Groats, where it is linked south/southeast by the A99 to Wick and to the A9 at Latheron.
