  Warbird Alley: Jet Provost
The RAF was impressed by the Jet Provost’s handling and seating configuration; after a four year comparative trial period of the T Mk 1s, 201 Jet Provost T Mk 3s were ordered in 1959 with Martin-Baker ejection seats, tip tanks, upgraded avionics and a clear canopy.
The Jet Provost design was later developed into the popular and capable BAC Model 167 Strikemaster light attack jet, but even the Jet Provost was to be armed with two machine guns on the export versions of the aircraft, the T.Mk51, T.Mk52 and T.Mk 55.
Retired from the military, the Jet Provost is now a popular and inexpensive jet for warbird enthusiasts in England, the Netherlands, Australia and the USA.

BAC Jet Provost - Free net encyclopedia
The Hunting Percival (later BAC) Jet Provost was a jet-powered training aircraft used by the RAF from 1955 to 1993.

 The Jet Provost
As a result, Hunting aircraft built the Jet Provost Mk1, which was the basic airframe from a Piston Provost modified to take a jet engine.
In all its' variants, the Jet Provost was fitted with various versions of Armstrong-Siddeley's (latterly Rolls-Royce's) legendary Viper turbojet engine (the original design was so good that it is still produced today, although in a much-modified form).
When the time finally came to replace the Jet Provost, the decision was taken to replace it with a turboprop aircraft, as a turboprop has jet like performance with much reduced operating costs.

 BAC Strikemaster at AllExperts
The BAC 167 Strikemaster was a jet-powered training and light attack aircraft.
It was a development of the Hunting Jet Provost trainer, itself a jet engined version of the Percival Provost, which originally flew in 1950 with a radial piston engine.
The Strikemaster is essentially an armed version of the Jet Provost T.Mk.5 and was first flown in 1967.

Hunting developed the Jet Provost from it's piston-engined Percival Provost basic trainer to meet an RAF requirement for a basic jet training aircraft, the prototype first flew in June 1954 and entered RAF service in 1955.
The Jet Provost remained the RAF's basic jet trainer until replaced with the Short Tucano in the early 1990's.
Hunting produced a ground attack version of the aircraft, the Jet Provost T51, after Hunting became part of BAC they produced another ground attack version based on the Jet Provost T.Mk.5 airframe and marketed it as the BAC 167 Strikemaster.

 Jet Provost
Developed by Hunting Percival Aircraft from it's piston Provost primary trainer of the late 1940's, the Jet Provost was built in response to a 1953 RAF requirement for a jet powered primary trainer so as to provide pupils with all through jet training.
The first often Jet Provost T.l's flew in the summer of 1954 and the type was used for trials by No. 2 Flying Training School from the summer of 1955 alongside the existing piston Provost.
A greater benefit was that pilots on the Jet Provost took less time to reach their solo flying stage than on the existing Provost.
