  BAE SYSTEMS - The Hawk
In late 1983, the go-ahead for the new aircraft - to be known as the Hawk 200 - was announced and work proceeded rapidly on the first prototype.
Hawk 200 Series aircraft, has the cockpit rear commonality with Hawk 100, making it relatively easy for a pilot to transition from one type to the other.
Hawks 200's radar system offers ten air-to-air modes and four sub-modes for detection tracking of airborne targets, and a similar number of air-to-surface modes for the detection and tracking of land based and maritime targets.

BAE pitched the Hawk to the USN in 1978, leading to a formal partnership agreement with MDD in 1980, and selection of the Hawk from a wide field of competitors in 1981.
While the Hawk 100 was at least as much warbird as trainer, BAE had also been considering, on an off-and-on basis, a single-seat Hawk that was all warbird, which emerged as the "Hawk 200".

The BAE SYSTEMS HAWK 127 Lead In Fighters (LIFs) have entered service with 76 Squadron at Williamtown near Newcastle on Australia's East coast and 79 Squadron at Pearce near Perth, Western Australia.
When the first batch of stickers were made, they were all of the same image which meant that, on the initial machines to wear these markings, the Panther head faced forward on the left side and aft on the right.
The very first additional markings which appeared on the Hawks were pilots names and a small leaping Panther which were stickers applied under the forward windscreen.
