BAE Systems Land Systems Hägglunds has won a 749 million euro (approx £500m) order from the Netherlands for its CV90 armoured vehicle.
This is the first major contract win for Land Systems, created in September this year.

BAE Systems Land Systems Hagglunds has developed the SEP (Spitterskyddad Enhets Platform) Modular Armoured Tactical System which incorporates an electric transmission system and a family of demountable interchangeable mission modules.
The electric transmission system (the drive shafts have been replaced by cable and the power from the engines is transferred by cable) gives a number of advantages, including volume efficiency, fuel efficiency, reduced life cycle costs, reduced environmental impact and increased stealth characteristics.
In a parallel program, Land Systems Hagglunds is also co-ordinating the industrial efforts of a six-nation, all-electric vehicle project with the participation of Finland, Holland, Italy, Greece, Sweden and Turkey.

The new M777 Portee System is based on an eight-wheeled (8x6) version of the HMT Supacat high mobility cross-country vehicle, which has been selected by the British Army for a number of other applications.
When in the travelling mode, the 155mm M777 lightweight artillery system is carried in the very rear of the chassis, with the ordnance to the front and resting between the split forward control cab.
When compared with a conventional self-propelled artillery system, the 155mm M777 Portee System will have the added advantage that it can be split into two loads for transport slung under a tactical helicopter.

British defence giant BAE Systems said on Monday it was to buy US group United Defense Industries (UDI), maker of Bradley tanks, for 3.97 billion dollars (3.0 billion euros) to expand further into the US market.
"By combining UDI with BAE Systems' existing land systems and North American operations, our capabilities will be strengthened to the benefit of current and future US Department of Defense, UK and Swedish Ministries of Defence programmes and their respective armed forces," BAE chief executive Mike Turner said.
Swiss broker UBS said the purchase was in line with US defence budget growth in land systems, but noted however that investors may be nervous about BAE doing such a large deal at a time when US defence spending may slow.
