BAE was formed on 30 November 1999 by the £7.7 billion merger of two British companies: Marconi Electronic Systems (MES), the defence electronics and naval shipbuilding subsidiary of The General Electric Company plc (GEC) and aircraft, munitions and naval systems manufacturer British Aerospace (BAe).
BAE's purchase of Lockheed Martin Aerospace Electronic Systems in November 2000 was described by John Hamre, CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and former Deputy Secretary of Defense, as "precedent setting" given the advanced and classified nature of many of that company's products.
BAE Systems Land and Armaments was formed in 2005 by the merger of the newly acquired UDI with BAE Systems Land Systems and is now the world's second largest land systems supplier.

I wish the Jetstream Club the best of luck and hope that the ATP makes it to the concrete at Liverpool - Speke, especially as having stayed at the hotel there, it is a living museum, tastefully done.
Seems strange that there should be a thread discussing preserving an ATP when I have an AVRO 780 (I still think of it as a 748MF but apparently its called an Andover) running its engines outside my office window.

BAE is converting ATP Freighters that will be used by First Flight to start its own Indian domestic freighter operations.
The three aircraft (msn 2039, 2051 and 2054) will be delivered during the second quarter of 2006 and will be configured as E-Class bulk freighters similar to the ATP freighter delivered to West Air Sweden, the company that pioneered this excellent and versatile air cargo lifter.
A notable exception is First Flight that has leased three BAE ATP freighters, which will be deployed to start its own freight operations.

It was an ATP from SATA that normally only operates regional flights between the Azores islands and it was returning back home after some maintenance in the UK.
The last time I saw an ATP from SATA in Lisbon was back in early 2004 and if then was a tremendous joy to see it, the same happened today as those are very rare aircrafts in mainland Portugal.
The ATP that visited us today was reg CS-TGL cn 209 named "Santa Maria" and it was the first ATP delivered to SATA Air Açores back in 1989.

 Surplus ATPs to Be Found a Home By BAE Systems Regional Aircraft
Nine BAe ATP twinprop airliners withdrawn from use with the Chicago hub of United Feeder Services earlier this month and currently stored at Kingman Airport, Arizona, are to be re-marketed by the Asset Management arm of BAE Systems Regional Aircraft, based at Hatfield, UK.
Asset Management, which is increasingly expanding its brief to include ancillary services, also handles the BAe 146, Jetstream 31 and Jetstream 41, offering both direct sales and leasing.
In this, its first venture with the ATP, interest is expected from Europe and North America.

JAL indicates that on Jetstream Model ATP airplanes and Model 748 series airplanes, the propeller spinner is not visible from the flight deck.
