The new approach to training is under consideration, according to UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials, because of the imminent entry into service of complex new aircraft types such as the multirole Eurofighter combat aircraft and Nimrod MRA.4 maritime patrol aircraft.
As far as the advanced jet trainer is concerned, several thousands of BAE Systems Hawk, Dassault Alpha Jet, Aermacchi MB326/339, Northrop T-38/F-5B, Aero Vodochody L-39 and other types will need to be replaced over the next 20-30 years.
It will be powered by a high-performance, 79kN (18,000 lb/st) thrust GE F404-GE-402 engine and will feature digital fly-by-wire flight controls with envelope limiter, a variable camber wing with strake, a common airframe for both variants and advanced navigation and attack sensors.

Airfix & Italeri 1/72 BAe Hawks - multi kit review
If I were to write an even half-decent 'potted history' of the Hawk, then I think this review would be twice as long as it actually is. With production likely to continue until at least 2010, the Hawk is one of the great success stories of the UK Aerospace industry.
In the case of the roundels for the all fl T.1A subject, it was not enough to have the red central dots as separate decals.
The cockpit is not appropriate for a Hawk 100 series, certainly not for the subjects included - a BAe demonstrator and a (probably speculative) RAAF example.

The Dominie was the ticket as it was the right size, available and British.
All Dominies were taken into 6 FTS, and until recently, wore this same white, red and grey paint scheme.
While I haven't been keeping up with things like this, I do believe that 6 FTS is no more and that the Dominies are now in the fl training scheme that in current with the RAF.

Trainer (aircraft) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As with all such weapons systems, this convertibility brings with it certain political risks: for example, the sale of the BAE Hawk to Indonesia in recent years has been highly contentious.
A minority of military training aircraft, such as the Vickers Varsity, HS125 Dominie or Boeing T-43 were developed from transport designs to train several navigators at the same time.
As these navigational trainees are normally learning how to navigate using instruments, they can be seated at consoles within the aircraft cabin and do not require a direct view of the landscape over which the aircraft is flying.

This year’s display of the Firefly was flown by Captain Alan Wade, and his consummately skillful displays over the weekend resulted in the award of the Sir Douglas Bader, (Best Individual Flying Demonstration), to himself and the aircraft, a fitting accolade indeed given some of the fantastic performances witnessed by the large RIAT crowd.
Beside the already mentioned aircraft there had been a few more interesting trainer on display, like the Dornier Alpha Jet from the Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) at Boscombe Down, the Slovenian Pilatus PC-9 or the BAe Dominie T.1 (originally based on the Hawker Siddely HS125 business jet), which is used for Navigational Training.
