A day punctuated by BBC news and current affairs is one of the things we most miss about living in the UK.
As phenomenal as the BBC in all its facets is (TV, radio, website,...) as totally meaningless BBC America is. At home, we used to subscribe to the extensive cable package only because BBC America was in the upper channels.
BBC America is too full of commercials for even an American's taste---the network even schedules commercials in the middle of scenes, for God's sake.

Tony Blair's government in 2000 commissioned an independent assessment of the BBC's internal rules, and it concluded that they "are appropriate to ensure that the BBC does not distort competition in commercial markets." But, the report noted, it's one thing to have rules in place and another to implement them.

Perhaps BBC America's editors should spend a little less time watching British television and more time watching ours before making these kinds of judgments in the future.

The BBC has apparently expected to ride on the reputation of the series' leading actors, instead of contributing toward its long-standing reputation for quality programming here.
Indeed, BBC America has been an active and eager contributor to the process, replacing dramatic series with home-improvement, house-and-garden, and other reality-TV type shows.
Compared with the rest of BBC America's current programming, or indeed, the overall output disgorged into America's cables, Wire in the Blood emerges as comparatively intelligent, cinemagraphically sophisticated, and satisfying, if not nourishing, brain candy for the detective-drama junky.
