BBC Birmingham is one of the oldest regional arms of the BBC.
For many years, BBC Birmingham was based at the famous Pebble Mill studios, but in 2004 moved to the brand-new Mailbox facility in the centre of the city.
As with all other BBC regions, BBC Birmingham is responsible for providing local radio services and the regional television news broadcasts on BBC One during the times when all regions opt out of the network feed to provide their own local news programming, which in the BBC Birmingham area is called Midlands Today.

BBC management have claimed this proposal is being made because of the loss of internal work at Birmingham and the reduction in external business in the UK Midlands.
Birmingham Graphic Design is part of BBC MediaArc, which also has sections in BBC London, Bristol and Belfast - all of which is part of BBC Resources.
Corporation management say the proposals are connected with the management moves to close the main network television facilities at Birmingham, the transfer of local news graphics work from the department, the changing pattern of daytime programmes and the lack of predictable work from BBC production areas.

The BBC is to close two of its television studios at BBC Birmingham after a wide ranging review of capacity in the English regions.
BBC Resources Chief Executive Margaret Salmon told staff today (Tuesday 22 August) that over capacity and changing production patterns in the broadcasting industry as a whole meant that demand for studio facilities had changed dramatically.
BBC Birmingham is the home, too, of the Daytime drama Doctors, launched successfully in the spring.
