Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC in London.
Broadcasting House was the home of the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes (typically comedy for BBC Radio 4) were recorded in front of a studio audience.
BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music in 2005 and 2006 have moved their studios from Broadcasting House to newly built studios in the adjacent Western House.

The Stronghold was built on land that the BBC already had plans to build on, but the building work was delayed as a result of the Second World War.
BBC Broadcasting House is currently being extensively renovated and I have recently been informed that the Stronghold area iminently going to be demolished as part of this work.
When built in 1932, Broadcasting House was provided with its own water supply - an Artesian well, which bores 600 feet down to the soft chalk layer beneath the building.

 Broadcasting House - The BBC is born
The BBC started its first regular transmissions on 14th November, 1922, although somewhat surprisingly it did so without a licence from the Post Office, which was eventually issued retrospectively in January 1923.
The BBC was already fully regionalised, with transmitters serving Northern Ireland, Scotland, northern England, south Wales and the west country, and the south-east.
In 1927, the BBC became the British Corporation, the Savoy Hill studios were being extended, and the BBC's newly appointed Civil Engineer, MT Tudsbery, started looking for new headquarters for the Coporation.

BBC Scotland has announced that its Broadcasting House premises and land at Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow, is on the market for sale.
The current Broadcasting House complex is located within the heart of Glasgow's West End and set within an established residential district immediately adjacent to the Botanic Gardens.
The earliest is North Park House, built in 1869 to the design of J.T. Rochead as a country mansion and private gallery for the brothers John and Matthew Bell, who owned the Glasgow Pottery at Port Dundas.

The £650 million project, comprising a new build and refurbishment of BBC Broadcasting House and the demolition and re-build of the Egton Wing, started in December 2002 and is due for completion at the tail end of 2008.
To add to the complexity of the project Bovis Lend Lease have to to into account that all live broadcasting continues throughout the build so noise and vibration from tools, plant and machinery has to be kept to minimum.

 Fire alert hits Radio 2
A fire alert at BBC Broadcasting House in London caused disruption to BBC Radio 2.
A BBC spokesman said around 300 people were evacuated and that Radio 2 was the only station affected.
The alert is thought to have been started by smoke coming from electrical equipment and lasted for about 45 minutes.

 BBC project suffers further setbacks
The troubled £400m redevelopment of the BBC's flagship Broadcasting House has been set back again, with the completion date now estimated at around 2010.
The project, which involves a complete refit of the 1930s building in Portland Place and the creation of the world's biggest newsroom, has suffered repeated difficulties since its inception four years ago.
The first stage of the project was only completed in January – eight months late – whilst one of the most serious problems involved the replacement of architect Sir Richard McCormac, who fell out with the BBC and Bovis Lend Lease.
