As BBC Canada is effectively a Canadian channel which merely happens to be partly British-owned, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's broadcasting regulations require it carry a quota of Canadian content.
BBC Canada is also the only channel in Canada that puts its TV rating on the top-right side of the screen, the opposite of the standard top-left side, as the channel's identifying digital on-screen graphic (DOG) occupies the top-left side, in line with those of several British television channels.
BBC Canada is prohibited from airing newscasts; however BBC World newscasts are made available through the channel itself (also available on digital cable and satellite), CBC Newsworld, and some PBS stations carried in Canada.
