The BBC Symphony Orchestra is the principal orchestra of the British Broadcasting Corporation and one of the leading orchestras in Britain.

The BBC Symphony Orchestra (= BBCSO) was founded by Adrian Boult in 1930 as London's first permanent orchestra.
At the start of the 2002-2003 season the BBC SO announced the appointment of highly acclaimed Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste as Prinicipal Guest Conductor, and in June 2003 John Adams was appointed to the new position of Artist in Asssociation.
The Orchestra's performance at Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations was seen by an audience of millions around the world.

When the BBC and its Radio 3 decided to "do" an orchestral "East Meets West" concert series, somebody had the vision to include a concert of Jewish music, and whoever that "guilty" party may have been ought to be given much more than a huge pat on the back and congratulated, even feted.
The BBC CO segment of the concert came to a close with Karol Rathaus' Dance from Uriel Acosta.
The concert was recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 10th March as part of Radio 3's East Meets West series, and one would strongly hope and wish that the BBC would issue the whole of this exhilarating concert on a double or triple CD.

The Concert Orchestra are not the first nor yet the second BBC orchestra.

Possibly because the BBC Concert Orchestra don't have the reputation of the big orchestras, maybe because people don't rate Wordsworth, or maybe because the programme was rather mixed.
Twenty minutes of well-deserved break later and the orchestra returned, this time with ladies from the Joyful Company of Singers, to perform John Foulds' "Three Mantras".
He and the BBC Concert gave a stunning account of the Enigma.

Though his music was very often 'classical' in nature, he was a true light music composer, using a symphony orchestra in his own unique style of music, often finding titles as amusing as the music itself.
The disc which was recorded in association with the BBC, and which has been used for subsequent broadcasts was made in London on the 13th and 20th November 1992, just two years after the death of Torch at the age of eighty-two.
