The BBC Millennium Oral History Project is organised by local radio stations up and down the country which are collecting material for 16 separate programmes to go on air in autumn 1999 for every region.
And BBC Essex wants people of all ages and backgrounds from Harlow, Stansted and across West Essex to come forward to talk about life in the 20th century and share their experiences.
BBC Essex wants to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds who feel they have something to contribute.

The winning entries will be broadcast on BBC Essex on Friday, March 23, and some of the winning entries will be broadcast on the regional news programme BBC Look East.

A BBC radio series entitled "The Sound Track to my life" is looking for an Essex teacher who is due to retire this summer after a lifetime in the classroom.
The series will pilot on BBC Essex from May 14th - August 13th and will run once a week on a Saturday.
They would pick out 3 or 4 songs in advance that represent a key moment in their life, the songs are then illustrated by taking the person (physically) back to those areas where they first heard the song, or back to that moment in time where the song meant something.

A management claim that significantly more than half the BBC's staff were working normally, prompted the unions to ask why so many programmes were dropped if so few people had actually withdrawn their labour.
Other events marked the day of industrial action, with senior Welsh Assembly members visiting striking BBC staff on their picket line, and presenters from BBC Newcastle holding an open forum in the town centre to meet the public.
Officials said that the outcome of the strike vindicated their view that BBC staff generally were sceptical, angry, and in many cases frightened by Thompson's plans.

BBC Essex Faith and Ethics producer, Canon Chris Bard, has made a documentary on St Peter's Chapel at Bradwell on Sea, broadcast on Good Friday.
Its champion in Essex was St Cedd who was invited from Lindisfarne by Sigbert, king of the East Saxons.
He made his base the old Roman shore fort of Othona, and built the chapel from materials salvaged from the ruins, straddling the wall of the fort (hence the name) where the Roman road entered the western gateway.

Radio programmes are to be broadcast from a ship in the North Sea 40 years after the first attempt to silence the pirate stations.
BBC Essex marks the 40th anniversary of offshore pirate radio at Easter by broadcasting from a ship off Harwich.
Pirate BBC Essex will broadcast on medium wave frequencies from LV Eighteen - a former lightship owned by the charity Pharos Trust.

On 14th October 2004 the great and the good of BBC local radio gathered in Birmingham for the annual Frank Gillard Awards.
BBC Essex presenter Ray Clark won a gold award for All At Sea, his excellent documentary about the sixties offshore stations which told the story from the perspective of the loyal listeners.

 Radio in Essex - Details of local stations
BBC local radio for the county of Essex started in November 1986.
The local station for the Essex new town of Harlow started back May 1993, and was closely linked to Essex FM in Southend.
Essex FM made use of the 101.7FM transmitter to rebroadcast its output, leaving Ten17 to broadcast a mere 3 hour evening show from local studios in Harlow.

My focus has been on the biggest two prime catchment areas, the adjacent London Boroughs that were once in Essex and Essex itself.
I strongly believe the case to keep the name to attract newcomers from these two areas is totaly compulsive and throughly convincing.

The BBC Essex Garden is used as Ken’s programme’s garden for weekly broadcasts (Saturdays), and was started by Ken in 1987.
The BBC Essex Garden is also open to the public, and receives many visitors, and of course will be a most welcome resource of The Herb Society and its members in the South East and the whole London area due to its location close to the M11 junction on the M25.
The Herb Society is also cooperating with BBC Essex in forming a regional Herb Society garden in the BBC Essex garden at Abridge, Essex.
