In September 1998 James H. Reeve left GMR, the BBC radio station in Manchester, after three and a half years there.
The true story behind his departure has carefully been kept from the listeners, the staff, the Press, and the highest levels of the BBC itself.
His explanation, that his use of such terms was in the context of discussions about racism and formed part of anti-racist arguments, was dismissed.

BBC GMR (Greater Manchester Radio) is the BBC Local Radio service for the English city of Manchester and surrounding area.

The first BBC radio station for the capital, running from 6 October 1970 until 7 October 1988 when it was replaced by test transmissions for GLR.
BBC London Live emerged from the South East Review in an attempt to boost audience figures, much to the chagrin of most of its existing listenership who were not impressed by the increase in phone-ins and consumer items, and the loss of many specialist music shows.
Radio Norfolk was one of the first BBC local stations to be based around a county, rather than a town or city; it was also the first to broadcast in stereo (though only to East Norfolk; the remainder of the county had to wait until 2005 for stereo broadcasts).

 BBC's local radio station in Manchester to revert to original name
BBC GMR, the BBC local radio station serving Greater Manchester, has announced it will revert to its former title, BBC Radio Manchester, from Monday 3 April 2006.
John Ryan, the station's Managing Editor, says: "BBC Radio Manchester went on air in 1970 and only became BBC GMR in 1988.
This change back to our original name, which is in keeping with most other BBC local radio stations, does not alter the quality or reach of our service.

The biggest Irish Community outside of London has joined forces to campaign against BBC GMR's plans to axe popular Irish Show "The Parlour"  The village of Levenshulme in South Manchester has responded with fury after their local BBC Radio Station's plans were leaked.
BBC GMR and The Parlour programme have been a great asset to the Levenshulme community and we are very grateful for their support.
I was very proud when BBC GMR made the decision to air The Parlour - if you were to write about the Irish in Manchester in the last 20 years it would be impossible not to mention The Parlour.

The full details of the reason he did so seem far too complicated to go into here, but suffice to say that he was less than impressed with the way matters were handled following some comments by James made on air.
It explains that James was now attempting to clear his name and that he was setting up another Web site about the incident, after an original one was pulled from the Internet by the ISP.
The newspaper article mentions that James "could face legal action" regarding the Web site and also that the BBC had said that the matter "was still in the hands of the legal department".

We went to the studios in the afternoon to record two songs for the show and it was a great experience to be in the BBC studios, its a massive building with studios everywhere for different radio and TV shows.
Michelle didn't play the recorded acoustic tracks because she said they didn't do us justice and said the recordings were not very good and is inviting us back for another interview and another recording session when a bit more time will be taken to get them right, so we look forward to that.
Michelle said she was a good friend of Terry Christian and that she would pass him our CD and tell him to check us out and you never know if he likes it he may play it on his shows.

Music lovers across the North West are invited to join in the fun of a BBC Proms in the Park concert for the Last Night of the Proms, at the beautifully restored Heaton Park on Saturday 10 September at 7.30pm.
The concert will be hosted by BBC GMR’s Heather Stott, and as in previous years there will be a live TV link up with the famous finale of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall.
BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist, euphonium virtuoso David Childs is another star attraction on the night, and he will play his own orchestration of the Carnival of Venice.

She was born onthe 25 July 1949, the daughter of Henry Ernest Arthur and Susan Elsie Goodey, and went to school at St Austell Grammar School in Cornwall, and later at St Hugh's College, Oxford where she was awarded a BA with Honours in History in 1971.
In 1998 she gave up her role as regular presenter of BBC political programmes in order to accept a government appointment as Director of the North West Development Agency and to broaden her business activities.
He became News Editor at BBC Radio in Birmingham in 1970, a position he held until 1975, when he was appointed as Deputy Manager at BBC Radio Manchester.

Manchester Sports a special community programme on BBC GMR at 8pm is written, produced and presented by Nassima, a postgraduate student in the School of Law.
Nassima approached the BBC with the idea after doing work experience at the Beeb in which she covered FC United games and other sporting events.
She is currently researching for her thesis on contract law in sport and has had papers published in the journal Entertainment and Sports Law, exploring the legalities and ethics of the transfer of young football players between European countries.
