BBC BASIC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BBC BASIC was developed in 1981 as a native programming language for the MOS Technology 6502 based Acorn BBC Micro home/personal computer, mainly by Roger Wilson.
BASIC III, the release supplied with the BBC B+, was produced in both a UK version and a U.S. market version for Acorn's abortive attempt to enter the cross Atlantic computer market.
A Zilog Z80-version of BBC BASIC was later used on the Tiki 100 desktop computer, Cambridge Z88 portable and the Amstrad NC100 Notepad and Amstrad NC200 Notebook computers.

BBC Micro - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The project was initiated largely in response to an extremely influential BBC documentary The Mighty Micro, in which Dr. Christopher Evans from the UK National Physical Laboratory predicted the coming (micro)computer revolution and its impact on the economy, industry and lifestyle of the United Kingdom.
The BBC discussed the issue with Sir Clive Sinclair, who tried to offer the unsuccessful Grundy NewBrain micro to them, but it came nowhere near the specification the BBC had drawn up, and was rejected.
A cut-down version of the BBC Micro, intended more for game playing was the Acorn Electron (1983); games were written specially for the Electron's more limited hardware, but they could usually also be run on the BBC.

The BBC Model B followed on from the Acorn Atom, and was widely adopted in the UK education market, though a cut-down home computer version, the Electron, was not a success.
The BBC B was followed by an upgraded version, the BBC Master, and replaced by the Acorn Archimedes.
Its immediate successor, the BBC Master, also sold well to schools, but was too expensive for home use and unsuccessful in the business market.
