BBC Radio Newcastle is the BBC Local Radio service English metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear.
The 96FM frequency from Chatton covers most of the populated areas of East Northumberland and the transmitter has national radio frequencies and television channels.
The Fenham transmitter, for West Newcastle and Gateshead situated close to the studios on Barrack Road, also broadcasts 100-102 Century FM on 96.2FM, Metro Radio on 103FM and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.6FM.

Radio Caroline can still be heard in the USA on Short Wave via the facilities of WBCQ The Planet in Maine USA from Thursday through to Sunday and a good response has also been received to those broadcasts from listeners in the Americas as well...
Commercial radio was still a few years away so the only alternative was BBC local radio, where the financial rewards were meagre.
